Frequently asked questions about online and live poker

Question: How do you play with real money?

Answer: Usually it is as follows: If you want to play poker online for real money (Which isn’t necessary, you can also play games to practice, so called "fun money" games) than you should get money from your bank account to the Internet. (Of course you can use a credit card too, but we recommend not to.) You will have to open an account with an Internet payment provider. We recommend Moneybookers due to their excellent service and because they are one of the very few to offer iDeal as a payment option. Once you've created an account at Moneybookers, you can very easily deposit money to your account with Moneybookers via iDeal or an ordinary bank deposit. Now, your money is on the Internet and you can make a payment through Moneybookers in the poker room of your choice. (Not all rooms accept Moneybookers yet) For example: If you want to make a deposit, then go to Everest Poker and choose the option: Deposit. Here you indicate that you want to make the payment by using Moneybookers. After that, you follow all the steps and within a minute there is money transferred from your Moneybookers account to your account at Everest Poker. The poker room puts this money (for example $ 100) in your personal account.
If you want to play with only $ 10, then choose a table and indicate you want to play for $ 10, a part of your total amount of $ 100. The poker room allows you to take a free seat at the table with the amount you set. The rest remains in your account. If you place a bet to a certain pot of $ 0.25 then the poker room takes this off your $ 10. (The money remains in the pot and is no longer available to you. Of course, this is the same for all players)
After betting the first round the hand is being played, all other bets are collected in the pot too. At the end of the hand the poker room determines who is entitled to the pot. This money is added to your remaining money in your account. If you want to stop playing at a certain table, then use the button: Leave table. You will take all your money again. This money is added to your total balance after a few seconds. In short: you need not fear that you will not get money, because your opponent does not want to pay.

Question: How safe is internet poker?

Answer: Online poker is currently dominated by a very large number of poker sites. These sites get so much money from their rake (Sometimes more than 80,000 people play simultaneously) that they are committed to ensure that everything runs safely. Especially at these sites the risk is minimal. This is sometimes compared with the probability that you will be robbed at a 'live'-poker game, which is almost excluded. The game is well-watched by the poker room organization, they do not want people to play in combination with other players. Suspected accounts will be closed immediately.

Question: Is poker gambling?

Answer: In general, poker is considered to be gambling. However, in the long run, a poker player can be a winning player, because a lot of skills are needed at playing poker. Most people, who know a little about poker, do not appoint poker as gambling. It has been compared to bridge. Poker is in the long term a skill game.

Question: What is the difference between poker in the casino (like Caribbean stud) and playing against other players?

Answer: If you play in the casino, you can not win in the long term. The casino ensures that there is always some profit to them. If you play poker with (or against) other people, it is possible in the long term to make better decisions than your opponents and thereby win. Playing in the casino (apart from poker against other players which is now possible in most casinos) is really just for fun. It is not possible to win consistently.

Question: Can anyone become a winning online poker player?

Answer: As long as there are players who do not take the poker game seriously and think that it is a gamble, there will be enough to divide amongst the winning poker players. Poker is a game and, in principle, everyone can become a winning online poker player. This person must meet certain conditions. Patience is one of the most important aspects of online poker. A winning player in the casino is not always a winner online, since it is quite different to it. Furthermore, it is always wise to read a number of books about poker.

Question: How does an online poker room earn money?

Answer: The casino always has an advantage to his players and therefore in the long run always wins money from his players. An (online) poker room keeps a poker game available. You’re not playing against the casino, but against other people. The poker room asks a kind of tax per hand played. This rake differs per poker room, but the average is about 5%. The higher the limit, the less rake you pay (in%).
